RTMP is the ingest protocol (encoder → server) and works for low-latency live streaming. HLS is the distribution protocol (server → viewer) and is what most players consume. NGINX-RTMP handles both: RTMP in, HLS out, with adaptive bitrate ladders configured at ingest.
FFmpeg uses AMD EPYC's AVX2 / AVX-512 instructions for accelerated software transcoding on our streaming plans. For dedicated GPU transcoding (NVENC, AV1), provision a GPU server and run FFmpeg with NVENC-enabled builds.
